Working in media is HARD. It’s well known that the media industry is one of the most cutthroat industries around. And yet, you become addicted the rush of crushing that pitch, seeing your ideas come to life on screen, hearing your brainchild on the radio or seeing your opinions and research expressed in the local rag. NAILED IT!
But climbing this ‘Media Mountain’ can be stressful, intense and at times a bloody hard slog! Sometimes the only boost that will work is connecting with like-minded people and share the mental load. After all, the gold rule in media is work hard and play harder right?
Enter the Adelaide Media Club.
Back in July 1996 the Adelaide Media Club’s (AMC) was born with the simple objective to “facilitate communication and networking between media and associated industry professionals“. Sounds corporate we know, but really it means – Once a month join some of the best media professionals in SA for a social sherbet and a good chinwag in some of the best spots Adelaide has to offer. Sometimes, a quick catch up and listening to others is all the boost you need.
Now, since we all love the social aspect of media we decided to add on and also host other special events throughout the year including our ‘Super Dooper Quiz Night’, ‘Laid Back Lawn Bowls’ night, and the much anticipated annual ‘Shake Your Cocktail -Feather’ Party for our members – just to keep things fun! And that’s the important part, keeping things fun.
Our annual membership is in excess of 250 people, who come from all areas – Advertising Agencies, Television, Radio, Multimedia and numerous associated industries. This means, you could be mingling with the big fish in our small pond called Adelaide.
The AMC is a not-for-profit club managed by an elected committee of industry volunteers. Elections are held each December and committee positions held for the following calendar year. All members are both welcome and encouraged to nominate themselves or others for any committee positions, and to cast a vote in the elections.
What you give out, you get back. In 2010, we added a philanthropic objective to our club. In addition to encouraging social interaction amongst the various facets of the Adelaide advertising industry we also aim to raise funds for worthwhile causes and charities.
The club is ever evolving and now we are striving to be your hub for networking, workshops, jobs and support.
